Toumani Camara Added to Rising Stars Player Pool as Injury Replacement
Camara will join Scoot Henderson and Bryce McGowens at All-Star Weekend in San Francisco.
When the NBA announced the player pool for the Rising Stars event earlier this week, it was a bit of a surprise that Toumani Camara, who has been arguably the Trail Blazers’ best player this season, was not included. The Blazers did have two representatives, Scoot Henderson and Bryce McGowens, but Camara also had a strong case to be included.
Now, that omission has been rectified. With four of the previously announced participants—Brandon Miller, Dereck Lively II, Victor Wembanyama and Jared McCain—unable to participate due to injury (or, in Wembanyama’s case, because he was selected to the All-Star Game as a reserve), the NBA announced the four replacement selections, and Camara is one of them. He will compete with other sophomores, rookies and G League players in a four-time mini-tournament at Chase Center in San Francisco on Friday, Feb. 14.
The other three players selected as injury replacements were Phoenix’s Ryan Dunn, Detroit’s Ausar Thompson and Orlando’s Anthony Black.
As a reminder: I will be at All-Star Weekend in San Francisco two weeks from now, as well as on the Blazers’ post-trade deadline road trip to Minnesota and Denver. Becoming a paid subscriber helps me cover those travel costs and bring you more coverage throughout the year.
