Blazers Fill Out Training Camp Roster With Three Signings
Jared Rhoden, Isaiah Miller and Norvel Pelle will be in camp in September.
With a little under two months to go before training camp opens, the Trail Blazers have begun adding players to the end of their camp roster. So far, two guards, Isaiah Miller and Jared Rhoden, and center Norvel Pelle have received invites.
Miller went undrafted last year out of UNC Greensboro and played the 2021-22 season for the Iowa Wolves of the G League. He played the Jazz at Summer League, while Rhoden played for the Kings. Pelle is the only one of the three with any NBA experience, having played for five teams in parts of three seasons
Simply due to his size and the Blazers' lack of depth in the frontcourt, one would think that Pelle has the inside track to earn the Blazers' second and final two-way spot.
That second two-way slot is realistically the only way any of these guys will actually earn a roster spot. The Blazers currently have 15 players with guaranteed contracts for next season, meaning they'd have to waive someone (and eat their salary) to sign someone else. Brandon Williams is on a two-way deal; their second two-way spot is open.
Portland currently has 19 players in total under contract, one below the maximum of 20 for training camp. Expect them to add one more player at some point; logically, it would make sense to have that player be another center to give Pelle some competition.
