📍INGLEWOOD, Calif. — A phrase you'll never hear again in Portland is "Once the new guy takes over..."

That day is here now.

The NBA's Board of Governors unanimously approved Tom Dundon's purchase of the Trail Blazers on Monday, and the transaction closed yesterday. Dundon took in the team's impressive win over the Clippers last night at Intuit Dome, and then caught a ride back to Portland on the team plane.

The Blazers are his now. Not Jody Allen's, or the Paul Allen Estate's.

What Kind of Owner Will Tom Dundon Be for the Trail Blazers? His Management of the Carolina Hurricanes Could Tell Us
With the Trail Blazers’ sale finally set to close, a deep dive into how their incoming owner’s hockey team has fared since 2018.

We've all known this day was coming since Paul Allen passed away in 2018. His will required that all his assets be sold and the money go to his charities. Eight years later, the Blazers sale has netted the estate $3.2 billion today and an additional $895 million at some point in the next 29 months, when Dundon's group will pay for the remaining 19.9 percent of the team.

Jody Allen will now turn her attention to selling the Seattle Seahawks, which the estate officially put on the market in February, 10 days after winning the Super Bowl. And Dundon will turn his attention to remaking the Trail Blazers in his image.

For 38 years, the team was owned by the Allen family, with all that entailed.

Now, they're owned by Dundon, with all that entails.

Things are going to be different around Moda Center and around the organization, you can count on that.
