Trail Blazers Sign Ashton Hagans to Two-Way Contract
Hagans was on a 10-day contract prior to the All-Star break.
The Trail Blazers are signing guard Ashton Hagans to fill their open two-way contract, a league source confirms. ESPN first reported the move.
Hagans, who has played this season with the Blazers’ G League affiliate, the Rip City Remix, made his Blazers debut earlier in February after signing a 10-day contract, appearing in four games before the All-Star break. Now, he joins Ibou Badji and Justin Minaya on two-way deals. The spot opened up after the Blazers converted center Duop Reath to a standard NBA deal, signing him to a three-year contract over the break.
With Malcolm Brogdon still sidelined with elbow tendinitis and Shaedon Sharpe out at least another month after undergoing core muscle surgery, the Blazers wanted to reinforce their guard depth alongside Anfernee Simons, Scoot Henderson and Dalano Banton. The deal also rewards Hagans for his work and development in the Remix’s inaugural season, where he’s started at point guard and was selected to the G League All-Star game during the NBA’s All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis this past weekend.
Hagans played two seasons at Kentucky before going undrafted in 2020, and signed a two-way contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves, appearing in just two games. He played the following two seasons in the G League for the Raptors 905, Fort Wayne Mad Ants and Greensboro Swarm. He signed a training-camp deal with the Blazers over the summer and ultimately landed with the Remix.
After the trade deadline, Portland signed Hagans to a 10-day contract for backcourt depth while Brogdon and Henderson were out with injuries, and he appeared in four games. He made his first NBA start in a Feb. 10 loss to New Orleans, a game Simons missed with an ankle injury. He had five points, two rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block in 23 minutes.
