Trail Blazers Bringing Back Taze Moore on Two-Way Contract
Moore spent last season with the Rip City Remix and fills the third and final two-way spot on Portland's roster.
The Trail Blazers are signing shooting guard Taze Moore to a two-way contract, a league source confirmed. ESPN first reported the news.
Moore spent last season in the Blazers organization playing for their G League team, the Rip City Remix. He had two brief stints with the Blazers on 10-day contracts at different points of the season, one in January and one on the final day of the regular season. He appeared in a total of four games and averaged 4.5 points, two rebounds and 1.3 assists in 10 minutes per game. In the G League, he was one of the Remix’s most consistent players, averaging 15.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 1.4 steals in 30.7 minutes per game.
Moore has had a busy offseason. After the conclusion of the NBA season, he signed with the Vancouver Bandits of the Canadian Elite Basketball League and won MVP of that league. Last week, played in the G League Fall Invitational as part of the “G League United” team in a series of exhibition games.
Moore fills the third of the Blazers’ three two-way contract spots, after they signed Justin Minaya and Bryce McGowens to two-way deals earlier in the summer. They have a total of 20 players currently under contract for their training camp roster: their 15 rostered players, now all three of their two-ways with Moore in the fold, and two training camp invites, Henri Drell and Devonte’ Graham.
The only flexibility Portland has on their regular roster is with the 15th spot, because Dalano Banton’s contract isn’t fully guaranteed. If Banton is waived before opening night, the Blazers are only on the hook for $217,533 of his $2.2 million salary. If he’s still on the roster at the start of the season, his salary becomes guaranteed for $1.1 million, with the rest of it becoming guaranteed on the league-wide deadline of Jan. 10. If Graham outplays him in camp, it’s possible the Blazers could waive Banton before the start of the season and keep him instead.
The Blazers will hold media day on Sept. 30, with training camp starting the following day. Their first preseason game is in Seattle against the L.A. Clippers on Oct. 11, and they kick off the regular season at home against the Golden State Warriors on Oct. 23.
Why would the Blazers sign another guard? Moore makes nine guards on the Blazers 20 man roster. It just doesn’t make sense.
