Portland won its first WNBA game since 2002 against the New York Liberty.
Schmitz had been with the organization since 2022.

In what looks to be an offseason of major change all over the organization, the Trail Blazers this week lost one of their most important front-office executives.
The Dallas Mavericks announced on Friday afternoon that they've hired Mike Schmitz, who has been one of Joe Cronin's assistant general managers since 2022, as their new GM under newly hired team president Masai Ujiri.

It is unclear at this point whether the Blazers will hire a replacement for Schmitz. Cronin's other two AGMs, Sergi Oliva and Andrae Patterson, are still with the organization.
The loss of Schmitz is a major one for the Blazers' basketball operations department that will be difficult to replace.
