A Complete Guide to the Trail Blazers' Summer League Roster
The Blazers have released the names that will be playing in Las Vegas this month.
One week out from the start of Summer League, the Trail Blazers have finalized the roster they will have in Las Vegas.
The event will run from July 12-22 at UNLV’s Thomas & Mack Center, and the Blazers’ first game will be against the Spurs on July 13.
For the second year in a row, assistant coach Jonah Herscu will serve as the head coach of the Blazers’ Summer League team. This year’s roster will feature three returning players, rookie Donovan Clingan plus a handful of players who are in the running for training-camp invites or spots on the Rip City Remix. Here’s a full breakdown:
The headliner
Donovan Clingan: The No. 7 overall pick will make his Summer League debut against the Spurs, who drafted his UConn teammate Stephon Castle at No. 4 overall.
Returning players
Justin Minaya: The team has already announced that Minaya will be back next season on another two-way contract, and he will be playing for the Blazers in Las Vegas once again.
Kris Murray: Murray became a mainstay in the rotation down the stretch for the Blazers last season and figures to have an expanded role in his second season.
Rayan Rupert: Outside of the debut of Clingan, Rupert is arguably the most interesting name to watch on the Blazers’ Summer League team this year. He struggled greatly in his Vegas debut last year, spent a lot of his rookie season in the G League and began playing more towards the end of the year. The Blazers are still very high on him long-term, but he remains a project.
Other players
Kennedy Chandler: A 2022 second-round pick of the Grizzlies, the 5-foot-11 guard spent much of his rookie season in the G League with the Memphis Hustle and then played for the Long Island Nets, Brooklyn’s G League affiliate, last season.
Yongxhi (“Jacky”) Cui: Cui, a 6-foot-8 Chinese wing, was one of the players the Blazers worked out during the predraft process. After he went undrafted, he agreed to an Exhibit 10 deal and will be in Portland for training camp this fall.
Kendric Davis: After an excellent college career at SMU (including winning AAC Player of the Year in 2022), Davis went undrafted last year and played for the Santa Cruz Warriors in the G league.
Quinn Ellis: Another international player that worked out for the Blazers in mid-June. Ellis, a 6-foot-4 point guard, is British and played professionally in Italy.
Javan Johnson: Former DePaul wing who most recently played for the Santa Cruz Warriors.
Spencer Jones: Jones worked out for the Blazers during the predraft process and joins their Summer League team after going undrafted out of Stanford.
Hyunjung Lee: A native of South Korea, Lee played college basketball at Davidson, played in the G League with the Santa Cruz Warriors in 2022-23 and spent last season in Australia with the Illawarra Hawks. He shot 40 percent from three-point range in the NBL last year.
Olivier Nkamhoua: Another international prospect, Nkamhoua is a native of Finland and plays for the Finnish national team, and played professionally last season in Germany.
Alex Reese: Outside of the returning players from the Blazers’ NBA roster, Reese is the most familiar to the organization. He played 32 games last season for the Remix and shot 41.5 percent from three-point range on 6.5 attempts per game in the G League.
Terquavion Smith: A 6-foot-4 guard coming off his rookie season with the Sixers, which he mostly spent in the G League.
