Like many, I’m glad to see a Rip City legend like Dame finish his career here in Portland. That said, it’s hard for me to imagine him having any significant impact on the arc of our team from a basketball standpoint. Am I wrong? I know Chauncey has called him an unofficial assistant coach, and he will certainly be an amazing mentor and culture builder, but by the time he’s back from his injury…outside of perhaps some timely late game shooting, I don’t see how he can be a part of us becoming a legit contender in the West given the timeline of the rest of the team.
