Four days ahead of Thursday's trade deadline, the Trail Blazers have agreed to send Duop Reath and two future second-round picks to the Atlanta Hawks for guard Vit Krejčí, a league source confirmed. ESPN first reported the news.
Portland is sending their own second-round pick in 2027 and the Knicks' 2030 second-round pick to Atlanta along with Reath, who is out for the season after undergoing surgery this week for a right foot stress fracture.
The 25-year-old Krejčí, who is from the Czech Republic, has shot above 40 percent from three-point range in each of the last three seasons, a clear weakness for a Blazers team that is currently dead last in the NBA in three-point percentage. He's under team control for two seasons beyond this one. His $2.6 million salary for next year is only guaranteed for $250,000 until Aug. 1 and becomes fully guaranteed on opening night; his contract then has a $3 million team option for 2027-28 with a similar guarantee structure.
Krejčí joins a suddenly crowded point guard group that also includes Love and Jrue Holiday, with Blake Wesley set to return to the lineup as soon as this evening against the Cavaliers and Scoot Henderson making his season debut in the very near future. The position the Blazers have been shorthanded in for most of the season now becomes one of their deepest.
Portland likely has at least one more move coming before the deadline. Trading for Krejčí gives them added guard depth and much-needed shooting, but it doesn't solve the problem of needing to clear roster spots to convert Sidy Cissoko and Caleb Love to standard NBA contracts.
Of note given recent things in the news: Krejčí's agent, Alex Saratsis, also represents Giannis Antetokounmpo.
