Scoot Henderson to Represent Trail Blazers at Draft Lottery in Chicago
The Blazers have a 13.2 percent chance at landing the No. 1 overall pick in Sunday's lottery.
A year ago, the Trail Blazers entered lottery day with the fifth-best odds. Their pick moved up to No. 3 overall, and they ultimately selected Scoot Henderson.
Now, they’re hoping Henderson can pay forward some of that luck as their onstage representative at this year’s lottery on Sunday in Chicago.
The Blazers finished tied with Charlotte for the third-worst record in the NBA at 21-61. Charlotte won the coin toss for lottery positioning, meaning they’re classified as the third team for the purposes of the odds. Portland will have a 13.2 percent chance of winning the No. 1 overall pick and a 50.2 percent chance of being one of the teams selected in the top four.
Last year, the Blazers’ lottery representative was franchise legend Brandon Roy, who also stood onstage in 2007 coming off his Rookie of the Year campaign. That year, they had the sixth-best odds but won the top pick—the Greg Oden pick. Roy is now 2-for-2 on outperforming the Blazers’ lottery slot. Rather than going for another alum, the Blazers are trying one of the faces of their rebuild a year after they had some good lottery luck to land Henderson.
The lottery will take place in Sunday and air on ABC at noon Pacific time, ahead of Game 4 of the Knicks-Pacers series. I will be in Chicago to cover it, as well as the predraft combine the following week.
Scooter the Shooter! Let's get those ping pong balls! Save Roy for when it really counts next year.
Oof I dunno... if they below expectations this is gonna be not nice for Scoot
