With the Trail Blazers finally getting their own G League team this year, the NBA’s minor league has become more of an area of interest to me, as I expect it will for many of you once the Remix begin playing games in November. It just so happens that former SLAM writer Alex Squadron has a phenomenal new book out called Life in the G: Minor-League Basketball and the Relentless Pursuit of the NBA. The book follows the Birmingham Squadron, the New Orleans Pelicans’ G League affiliate, for a full season with an incredible level of truly embedded fly-on-the-wall access for an aspect of pro basketball that’s very under-covered.
Alex joined me on the podcast to talk about the book, general insights into the G League and what Portland can expect with there finally being a G League team here.
You can preorder the book here, and listen to our conversation below.
